It’s an open-source office suite that is much less CPU intensive than OpenOffice. In spite of this, if you’re short on cash and looking for a word processor for free, check out Bean (Leopard users click-> 3.09) (Tiger users click-> 2.45). Many times, we would find random things formatted incorrectly after moving the file to a computer with Microsoft Office…which can be quite irritating. It’s not that we think they are bad programs, but we’ve often ran into problems when opening an OpenOffice file that was supposedly compatible with Microsoft Office. Some people are big fans of using OpenOffice (among other open source word processors), but we’ve never been a fan of them. Microsoft Office 2008 is the best Microsoft Office version for those with faster (and dual-processor) G4’s. Microsoft Office 2004 is the best Microsoft Office release for those with earlier (or non-dual processor) G4’s. If you feel it’s running too slowly, give an earlier version a try. iWork ’09 has support for all G4’s running at 400MHz so it’ll run well on nearly all G4’s.
